HONG KONG, PHILIPPINE STOCKS UP
Manila, Nov. 4, 1997 - The Philippine Stock Exchange index, pulled up by improved sentiment in the region, ended a few points higher in very guarded trading yesterday.
The Phisix closed 7.17 points higher at 1,825, with losers outnumbering gainers 46 to 45. Volume of stocks traded was a low 443 million shares valued at P1.04 billion. Trading was cautious, with investors concentrating on blue chip stocks.
Most local investors preferred the sidelines, despite the boost given trading by a perceived general stability of the local currency market.
