CALESA BAR REVIVED, NOW LARGER AND BETTER
Pasay City, Oct. 31, 1997 - The Calesa Bar, most popular watering hole of the 70s, has reopened its doors after a massive face-lifting.
The new Calesa Bar now exudes a bright atmosphere, with a larger seating capacity and a more elegant ambience.
It was during the heyday of the fusion Jazz trend in the 70s and 80s when the Manila Band and John Lesaca topbilled the entertainers at the Calesa Bar. Female singers like Vernie Varga, Dulce and Janet Basco were new names who were making their mark in show business with their nightly performances.
Ms. Jenny Puno, marketing communications manager of the Hyatt, said oldtime regular Rudy Francisco continues to be the main music man, now playing with two musicians playing bass and sax. Every night, the Calesa Bar features different singers with different themes.
Mondays has Melissa Sanchez , Tuesdays there's a soprano tackling Broadway musicals, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays are reserved for special shows by established singers like Chiqui Pineda, Jazz is featured every Thursday with singer Armina Gonzales, while Sunday is family fun night, Talent Night when everyone is free to be on the spotlight.
All the events at the Calesa Bar fit into the image of the Hyatt Hotel, one of the oldest institutions in Philippine Tourism.
"Our guests tell us that one of the main selling points of the Hyatt is that we are a small hotel with personalized service. They like the place because it is quiet. And the concept for Calesa Bar is exactly that -- homy, fun, yet classy and sophisticated," says Ms. Puno.
