NEW HOTELS MUSHROOMING IN CEBU CITY
Cebu City, Oct. 26, 1997 - The Cebu City Marriot Hotel at the Ayala-developed Cebu Business Park will open soon. It is managed by Marriot Lodging, hospitality arm of Marriot International, the world's leading hotel chain with 210,000 hotel rooms in 1,200 projects around the world.
The Marriot is just one of four new luxury hotels in the premier city of the Visayas, which is visited by 500,000 tourists annually. The major chain chose to launch its first Philippine project in Cebu City largely because of the area's robust economic performance.
In the past eight months alone, nine new hotels with a total of 1,450 rooms opened in Metro Cebu, with 2,147 more under construction, most of which will be operational in 1998.
The Cebu area has the highest export growth rate averaging 20 percent in the last 5 years, with the balance of trade shooting up by 191 percent in 1996.
Cebu also serves as headquarters for major local and transnational corporations, such as the Gaisano Group of Companies, Sulpicio Lines, WG&A Lines, Asahi Pentax, Seagate Technologies and Mitsui.
