HK TOURS PRICE WAR GOOD FOR TOURISTS
Manila, Oct. 24, 1997 - The slump in tourist arrivals to Hong Kong has provoked a price war allowing tourists to tour Hong Kong for $168 for three days and two nights inclusive of air fare and accommodations.
As gathered and reported by Travel editor and columnist, historian E.P. Patanne, here are the advertised Manila-Hong Kong-Manila package tour rates:
Reli Tours offers budget trips (3d/2n) for only US$170. For ticket only, one pays $130.
Praise Travel has a special package of US$188, ticket for only US$145.
World Master Tours has a buy-one, take-one offer of US$250, or $165 for ticket only
Sinai Travel offers US$168, with ticket only for US$145, rooms at the Panda Hotel.
Hong Kong visitors have recently given varying reports on prices of goods and services in the new Special Administrative Region (the new name for the former Crown Colony). With the peso rate plunging to P4.60 per HK$1, shopping can indeed be quite costly.
Veteran shoppers could still get good bargains in electronics and signature clothes by patronizing reliable but little-known stores off the beaten track.
