RP TRACK TEAM TO TRAIN IN CHINA
Manila, Oct. 31, 1997 - The Philippines' top track and field athletes will train in Weihai, Shandung, China, for next year's Asian Games in Bangkok.
The Philippine Amateur Tack and Field Association (PATAFA) is tapping more than 60 athletes for the training program in the camp managed by coaches Jiang Chi Chi and Sun Chin Min who were credited for the world record-breaking performance of one of their wards, Qing Bo.
Qing Bo, who established a new mark of 14:32:33 in the 5,000 meter run, was among the group that included seven Filipinos under the two coaches five months before the last South East Asian Games.
The two Chinese coaches will be assisted by either a German or a Russian coach.
PATAFA president Go Teng Kok is optimistic that his athletes face a bright future in international meets with the right training and motivation.
