RP GETS TWO MORE SEAG GOLDS
Manila, Oct. 30, 1997 - Philippine Olympic Committee Chairman Cristy Ramos-Jalasco announced yesterday that the Philippines is getting two more gold medals from the South East Asian Games (SEAG) after the disqualification of a Thai and an Indonesian who failed drug tests in the Games.
Decathlete David Bunevacz and cyclist Victor Espiritu were declared winners in their events after Thai David Yunsuaray and Indonesian cyclist Tonton Susanto tested positive for banned drugs and were disqualified on recommendation of the SEAG Medical Commission.
Jalasco said "The two golds at least reached our target of 45 and justified charges of massive cheating. This is good news for our athletes who gave their all.
Go Teng Kok, president of the Amateur Track and Field Association, said the gold is a vindication for Bunevacz, who "now got what he and we deserve.
