ALASKA BEATS POP COLA TO SHARE LEAD
Pasay City, Oct. 22, 1997 - Defending champion Alaska Milk climbed into a share of the lead by beating Pop Cola, 83-79 at the Cuneta Astrodome last night. With 5 wins and 3 losses, Alaska is in a three-way tie for first place of the PBA Governor's Cup Elimination round with San Miguel and Gordon's Gin.
Coming from behind with a 52-60 deficit, Alaska's Sean Chamber and Johnny Abarrientos pooled their efforts to lead 73-66 with a minute left to play. Not even two 3-pointers by Pop Cola daunted the Alaska team, which sealed the victory with successive free throws.
