SAN MIGUEL TROUNCES STA. LUCIA

Cebu, Oct. 19, 1997 - San Miguel is now tied with Sta. Lucia at the lead of the Philippine Basketball Association's Governor's Cup eliminations, after beating the Realtors 97-90 in an out- of-town game at the Cebu Coliseum yesterday.

Bong Alvarez scored 10 points in the final quarter as the Beermen crushed the Realtors to tie with 5 wins and 3 losses.

The Beermen survived a fourth quarter assault, with Bong Alvarez sinking consecutive baskets, erasing a 76-80 deficit en route to a 91-8 lead. Dennis Espino and Gerry Esplana led the big Sta. Lucia run which overturned a 72-58 to an 80-76 lead with 6 minutes left.

The spurt was not enough to hang on to the lead.
