SIX MORE GOLDS FOR RP IN SEA GAMES
Jakarta, Oct. 18, 1997 - Susan Aguado took a gold medal in the women's sport pistol; Pinoy golfers picked up three golds, and the rowing team grabbed two at the South East Asian Games to help push the Philippines push closer to easing out the Malaysians from third place over all.
With 35 gold medals on the second to the last day of competitions, the Filipino contingent bested the 33 gold medals won in the SEA Games two years ago. They're still two medals short of Malaysia's 37.
Seventeen-year-old golfer Dorothy Delasin captured the individual gold and paired with Jennifer Rosales to men the team title. Meanwhile, national amateur champion Gerald Rosales captured the men's gold by beating Thai Jaidee Thangchai.
The RP rowing team received their first medals in two decades of competition when Edgar Maerina and Jose Rodriguez won the lightweight double sculls while Myla Banbilonia and Ma. Concepcion Fornea took the coxless pair title.
The host, Indonesia, maintained its position at the top of the team standings, followed by Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.
