SEA GAMES: RP THIRD WITH 8 GOLDS
Jakarta, Oct. 14, 197 - The Philippines ended the second day of the South East Asian Games with 8 gold medals, ranking the country third in overall standings.
Olympian Elma Muros retained her long-jump title with a leap of 6.45 meters for a gold medal. Veteran Hector Begeo also kept his 3,000-meter steeplechase title with a time of 9 minutes, 8.28 seconds.
Taekwondo jin Roberto Cruz started the day with the first gold medal for the RP team. It was his fourth straight gold since the Manila SEA games in 1991.
Judy Malinis also won a gold in the 72-kilogram women's judo category.
Indonesia retained top place with 39 gold, 11 silver and 21 bronze medals. Second placer is Thailand, with 10 golds, 13 silvers and 17 bronzes. The Philippines is third, with a total of 8 golds, 9 silvers and 12 bronzes.
