SAN MIGUEL CRUSHES SHELL, PUREFOODS ZAPS MOBILINE
Pasay City, Oct. 8, 1997 - Shell took another step closer to the brink of elimination last night, when it suffered its fifth straight defeat, 94-84 in the hands of San Miguel Beer. The loss confined the Zoom Masters to the last place in the Philippine Basketball Association's (PBA) Governor's Cup elimination round.
The Zoom Masters had a similar fate in 1993, and an even worse 7 losses during the Commissioner's Cup.
With last night's kill, the Beermen moved to third place, its 3-2 record still behind number one Sta. Lucia (4-1) and second placer Gordon's Gin (3-1).
Meanwhile, Purefoods turned back Mobiline 86-85 to climb into a tie with San Miguel. The rest of the standings: Pop Cola all alone in fourth place (2-1), while Mobiline and Alaska tied for fifth place (2-3).
