SAN SEBASTIAN RETAINS NCAA CROWN

Manila, Oct. 7, 1997 - Basketball history was made yesterday when San Sebastian defeated San Beda to become the first team in Philippine collegiate basketball to win five straight NCAA titles.

The Stags crushed San Beda's Lions, 84-72, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, for an unprecedented 25-game straight win. It is the Stag's 9th NCAA title victory since 1973.

In the junior division, Mapua's Red Robins won the title with a 78-60 score over the San Beda Red Cubs.
