GORDON'S BEATS SHELL, SHARES PBA LEAD
Bacolod City, Oct. 5, 1997 - Gordon's Gin is now tied in the Number One slot with Sta. Lucia in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) governor's Cup elimination rounds, after winning an out-of-town game with Shell at the La Salle Gym in this city.
The score was 1101-99 with 8 seconds to go in the game and the Turbochargers had a chance to tie and force an extra period. But the Boars' Noli Locsin was fouled by Benjie Paras and successfully sank two penalty shots, effectively thwarting any chance for Shell to play catch-up.
The team standings now see Sta Lucia and Gordon's at the top (3-1), Mobiline second (2- 1), followed by a three-way tie of Alaska, Purefoods and San Miguel (2-2), trailed by Pop Cola (1-2) and in last position is winless Shell, 0-4.
Sta. Lucia plays Mobiline today at the Cuneta Astrodome.
