VILMA NOT RUNNING FOR MAYOR
Batangas, Oct. 22, 1997 - It is now official: Vilma Santos-Recto is not running for mayor of Lipa City.
The "Star of all Seasons" told the Philippine Star's Joanne Ramirez that the closest she will be to public office is as the wife of Batangas Congressman Ralph Recto, grandson of statesman Claro M. Recto.
"My husband is already doing a good job and I have a family to take care of. It's going to be a big sacrifice if I run and I don't think I'm ready," she confessed.
Besides, the lifestyle of a politician simply does not fit into her body clock's showbiz schedule, "Unless the people are willing to have a flag ceremony at 5 p.m. and hold meetings with me at 3 a.m., because that's my schedule."
Lipa City residents have been trooping to the Recto household and to Cong. Recto's office to convince Villa's husband to persuade the actress to change her mind. The deadline for filing of certificates of candidacy with the Commission on Elections is January, 1998. Plenty of time, they say, for a change of heart.
