NORA LEADS STREET MARCH WITH MILITANT WORKERS
Manila, Oct. 21, 1997 - Superstar Nora Aunor is the unlikely ally of militant groups who yesterday began a five-day, 50-kilometer march to Malacanang to demand higher wages and lower prices.
Nora was presented to media by the organizers at a press conference, where the multi- awarded singer-actress pledged her support for the march.
As spokesman of the Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAT), Aunor assured Lakbayan organizers that her organization fully supports the mass action and the workers' demands.
Aunor said she will try to convince her colleagues from the movie industry to join the march. "Siguro naman po a may panahon sila para sa ganitong pagkilos." (Perhaps they have time to give to these mass actions.)
Nora's involvement in street mass actions was brought to light last September 21, when she sang the protest song "Ang Bayan" at the foot of the Mendiola Bridge beside Malacanang where militant workers and students had gathered at the end of the Luneta rally of Cardinal Sin and Cory Aquino.
