NEW SEX SYMBOL WAS PASAY FOOD VENDOR
Manila, Oct. 20, 1997 - The newest sexy star in Mother Lily's stable used to deliver cheap meals wrapped in plastic bags to different offices in Libertad, Pasay City.
Aya Medel, leading lady in "Uhaw sa Iyo" produced by Lily Monteverde, candidly admits to her humble beginnings.
All she dreamed about, she said, was to earn enough to support herself and stop being a burden to her family. "I came from a poor family in the province, and I could not afford to buy good clothes until I joined the movies."
She was discovered accidentally while doing her delivery rounds, and the talent scout who spotted her referred her to controversial talent manager Jojo Veloso.
She had to go through a lot of "personality overhauling" and "citification" training to prepare her for her role as a movie star and celebrity. Her candidness is likened to Kris Aquino's tactless nature, and she earned the nickname "Taklesa" for it, just like Kris did.
But Mother Lily has taken her in and has lined up several projects for the new Monteverde favorite. The former market food vendor is earning more than enough for herself; she is now able to send money to her family in her home town.
