MARIKINA MAYOR WINS ASIAN PRODUCTIVITY AWARD

Marikina, Oct. 29, 1997 - Marikina Mayor Bayani Fernando is the recipient of the 1997 Productivity Excellence Award for hiss leadership in local governance. The honor was bestowed by the Asian Productivity Association Society of the Philippines.

Fernando was chosen in recognition of the innovative programs and projects he implemented in Marikina during his two terms, which pushed the town ahead in the fields of ecology, sanitation, peace and order and population.

Mayor Fernando, who was also honored as Best Local Chief Executive for 1996, said "local leadership must be anchored on humane principles that are consistently and equally enforced." He added that "a local chief executive should be seriously bent on improving his community to make it a more productive area where its constituents can depend on its economic sustenance and live a more secured social life."
