33 CARNAPPED MANILA VEHICLES FOUND IN CEBU
Camp Crame, Oct. 28, 1997 - The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recovered 33 vehicles stolen in Metro Manila and shipped to buyers in Cebu City.
PNP Chief Director General Recaredo Sarmiento told newsmen that several officials of the Land Transportation office and the Traffic Management Group of the PNP are believed to be in connivance with the Metro Manila-based syndicate. Sarmiento ordered a thorough investigation and the filing of charges against those found responsible.
The recovery of the luxury vehicles was the result of Oplan Snow white supervised by chief Superintendents Jewel Canson and Panfilo Lacson from Oct. 12-17 in Cebu City.
The luxury cars, forcible taken or stolen while parked in Metro Manila, were given new registrations and shipped to buyers in Cebu City. Twenty seven of them were found with tampered chassis and engine numbers.
Initial investigations show that corrupt LTO and TMG-PNP officials, as well as sellers of luxury vehicles, were in cahoots with the carnap group.
