BULACAN LOOKS TO SWAMP GAS FOR HOUSEHOLD FUEL

Miguel, Bulacan, Oct. 27, 1997 - Municipal officials re planning to tap swamp gas discovered near Sibul Spring in Sitio Arenas as an alternative to expensive liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The burning element was discovered over the weekend by diggers of a deep well. Initial investigation showed that the substance flowing our from the deep well was swamp gas, similar to that previously used by residents near Angat Dam as alternative fuel for cooking.

Old residents say the minerals could be coming from the Sibul Spring where the mineral- rich hot water is believed to have pharmaceutical properties when used for bathing.

San Miguel Mayor Santy Sevilla ordered that samples of the mineral liquid from the well be sent to the Philippine National Police laboratory for examination.

Mayor Sevilla plans to lay down a network of pipes to carry the gas to all the households in his municipality so that everyone can avail of cheap fuel.
