40,000 PINATUBO FAMILIES RESETTLED
San Fernando, Pampanga, Oct. 24, 1997 - Twenty three resettlement areas in Central Luzon now house 40,000 families who have been transplanted from their homes submerged and/or destroyed by the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo and the subsequent lahar floods.
Mt. Pinatubo Commission Executive Director Antonio Fernando said the resettlement projects are provided with school buildings, hospital facilities, markets, recreation centers and other needs of a typical community.
All the resettlement areas, scattered throughout Zambales, Pampanga and Tarlac provinces, will be inspected today and tomorrow by a team headed by Budget Secretary Salvador Enriqez Jr. who is also chairman of the MPC.
Aim of the group is to establish livelihood programs for the idle family members, whose lives have been altered permanently by the once-dormant volcano.
