LAS PINAS BUYS DUMP TRUCKS, SAVES P80 MILLION
Las Pinas City, Oct. 20, 1997 - The city government of Las Pinas has saved P80 million over two years as a result of Mayor Aguilar's decision to take over the city's garbage collection.
Mayor Vergel Aguilar cancelled the garbage collection contract with private contractor two years ago, bought dump trucks from Japan and hired local government employees to haul the town's garbage.
Aguilar's dump trucks are small enough to navigate he narrow streets and alleys of the city's barangays, resulting in more efficient and faster operations.
The savings have been earmarked for infrastructure projects such as roads, drainage systems, school buildings and health centers.
Las Pinas was chosen this year's Cleanest and Greenest City.
