PASAY POLICE CHIEF SACKED
Pasay City, Oct 16, 1997 - Pasay Police Chief Armando Aprid was relieved yesterday for failure to arrest the suspects in robberies involving foreign tourists inside the Heritage Hotel.
Southern Police District director, Chief Superintendent Romeo Maganto appointed Spt. Eduardo de la Serna to replace Aprid.
According to reports, the spate of robberies began October 9, when one Japanese executive and a Hong Kong businessman lost their bags in the lobby and inside the casino. The third victim, a Japanese tourist, lost cash from his travelling bag left inside his hotel room.
Police had reportedly arrested a certain Juna, who served as tourist guide to one of the victims. However, the suspect was not held in custody and "eluded" his captors.
SPD chief Maganto has ordered an investigation of the robberies and the escape of the suspect.
