RUFFA'S DAD RUNNING FOR CONGRESS, AGAIN
Paranaque, Oct. 2, 1997 - A star-studded election awaits the residents of this town next year, with actor Eddie Gutierrez trying once more to beat re-electionist Congressman Roilo Golez as Paranaque's lone Representative. Joining the fray is another senior actor, 76-year-old Eddie Garcia.
Two actors in a ring with one traditional politician will definitely mean a loss for both actors, according to political observers. "Mahahati nila ang boto ng mga fans." (They will split the fan's votes.)
Paranaque's mayor is Joey Marquez, actor-comedian and brother of actress-beauty queen Melanie Marquez, and son of the late movie director Artemio Marquez.
The mayor's co-star in the weekly TV sit-com "Palibhasa Lalake" has jumped on the political bandwagon and will campaign for a seat in the municipal council (Sanguniang Pambayan). Anjo Yllana, of Tahanan Village, Paranaque, will run in the second district with the battle cry "Tikboy Para Sa Palaboy" to focus on his program for street children. "Tikboy" is the name of the character Yllana plays in the sitcom.
Yllana will be among 50 candidates running for a town council seat.
