MINERS REQUIRED TO PAY ENVIRONMENT FUND
Manila, Oct. 12, 1997 - The Philippine government is requiring all mining contractors and permit holders to finance a Mine Rehabilitation Fund to ensure availability of cash for the implementation of the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Victor Ramos said the fund is a must for mining projects to serve as an environmental deposit.
Ramos said the new requirement is specified under the Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Mining Act. He required compliance within 60 days.
