ALASKA WHIPS SHELL, GORDON NIPS POP COLA
Quezon City, Sept. 27, 1997 - Alaska Milk displayed championship form when it trounced Shell, 110-80 for its first win in the eliminations of the Philippine Basketball Association's (PBA) Governor's Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Milkmen were comfortably ahead, 55-39, at halftime. It was easy sailing from there. Import Sean Chambers shot 26 points to led the Alaska offensive, with double digit points also contributed by Johnny Abarrientos, Jojo Lastimosa and Poch Juinio.
In the second game, Gordon's Gin outpointed Pop Cola, 113-110. Top scorers were: Edwards - 28 points, Jarencio -23 points and Aquino - 21 points.
Today, Mobiline will face San Miguel in an out-of-town match in Cagayan de Oro. Tomorrow's games at the Cuneta Astrodome will pit Sta. Lucia against Pop Cola while Purefoods will play Shell.
