Manila, Sept. 19, 1997 -- The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will give cash bonuses totalling P10 million to Filipino medal winners in the 19th South East Asian Games to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia next month.
PSC Chairman Philip Ella Juico announced that President Ramos approved the bonuses before he left for Europe and the Middle East last week.
Individual medal winners will receive P75,000 for gold, P50,000 for silver and P20,000 for bronze. For team events, members of the squad will receive P50,000 each for gold, P25,000 each for silver and P10,000 each for bronze.
Coaches will get bonuses equivalent to 50% for gold, 30% for silver and 20 percent for bronze. Juice said P10 is enough to cover as many as 60 gold medals, although the Philippine Olympic Committee estimated the country's chances at only 45 gold medals.
