GRUMBLING OVER
PBA IMPORT'S HEIGHT
Manila, Sept. 19, 1997 --
Former NBA player Sean Green, drafted by Philippine Basketball Association
(PBA) team Sta. Lucia, was cleared to play in the season-ending PBA tournament
after passing the official height measurement yesterday. Green, officially
listed as 6 feet, four inches tall, was questioned by witnesses for being
a bit over the limit, but PBA physician Ben Salud gave him the green light
to join the ranks of Sta. Lucia.
Also okayed after the height tests were imports: Bobby Parks (Shell), Purnell Perry (Gordon's), Eric Brown (Purefoods), Larry Robinson (San Miguel), Byron Houston (Pop Cola) and Artemus McClarry (Mobiline).
Because of the doubts raised on green's height, the PBA said it would welcome any protest from other ball clubs. The PBA has a 6-feet, 4-inches height limit regulation for imports.
Green was an Iona University superstar and had played with the Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers and the Utah Jazz.
