MOVIE CENSORS VS SEXY BILLBOARDS
Manila, Sept. 28, 1997 - The censors want all sexy billboards taken down. Chairman Jesus Sison of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has warned movie producers and distributors about billboards and publicity photos showing nude or skimpily-clad stars.
The MTRCB memorandum included movie stills which have been published by local tabloids as marketing gimmicks.
Presidential Decree 1986 grants the Board the authority to examine and approve all publicity materials for local and foreign movies, to include trailers, advertisements and stills for theatrical and non-theatrical distribution. The decree imposes penalties of imprisonment and fines. In case of theaters or television stations, violator's license will be revoked and the movie houses or TV stations padlocked.
