G.I. JANE, SPAWN CLOBBER LOCAL MOVIES

Manila, Sept. 25, 1997 - Local movies beat a hasty retreat from movie houses in Manila this week, trounced by Hollywood imports.

For the first time at Megamall, there was no local film with enough patrons to keep it running through the weekend. Judy Ann Santos' "Babangon angHuling Patak ng Dugo" was pulled out because very poor box office receipts.

Local movies had no chance against "G.I. Jane" starring Demi Moore, which packed three Megamall theaters last weekend. The special effects of "Spawn" also attracted enough viewers to standing-room-only schedules for the period.
