PRINCESS REVILLA'S
BATTERED MAIDS SEEK P16-M
Manila, Sept. 20, 1997 -- Former actress Princess Revilla was sued for P16 million for physical injuries and beatings sustained by her former maids Precy Balolong and Rodelyn Lumactod. The multi-million damage and civil lawsuit was filed in Muntinglupa by the private prosecutors of the Commission on Human Rights.
The maids' volunteer lawyer, Luz Mendoza of the Lawyers Against Monopoly and Poverty (LAMP) said the two domestic helpers suffered severe emotional, physical and psychological damage in the hands of the daughter of Senator Ramon Revilla.
The plight of the two maids featured prominently in Manila's newspapers and on TV while they were in hospital after they escaped from Revilla's house last April 27. Criminal charges were earlier filed against Princess before the Pasig Regional Trial Court.
Last month, the National Labor Reconciliation Commission ordered Revilla to pay P48,000 for the maids' salaries for two years.
