SINGER DING MERCADO
RESUMES CAREER IN MANILA
Manila, Sept. 17, 1997 -- Singer Ding Mercado has ended 9 years of semi-retirement in Vancouver and is back home to stay.
Ding, a member of the Minstrels, was a TV star in Hong Kong throughout the 80s, moved to Sydney briefly and migrated to Canada in 1988. "I couldn't be a superstar forever in Hong Kong, so I decided to move on. Vancouver is the perfect place for retirement; it's a beautiful place."
In 1993, he did a charity show in Vancouver, raising $25,000 for the relocation of the residents of the Manila dumpsite Smokey Mountain.
Since his return, Ding has guested on TV, and has received suggestions of a possible reunion concert with the other Minstrels like Louie Reyes and Eugene Villaluz.
