PLAYBOY, PENTHOUSE, SMUT MAGS IMPOUNDED

Pasay City, Sept 24, 1997 - A large shipment of imported magazines, misdeclared as personal effects, was seized at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Monday.

It was shipped through Federal Express flight no. 211, and when opened for examination was found not to contain personal effects but 2,600 bold magazines, some of them banned in the country for being pornographic.

The magazines confiscated include Playboy, Penthouse, Playgirl, Fox, Velvet, Torso, All Man, Hustler, Swank, Manshot and Hot Forny Boys. The shipment was addressed to a certain Daniel Bernate of Block 8, lot 2, San Antonio Valley, Manila.

Asked what fate awaits the magazines, Deputy Customs Commissioner Luciano Millan recalled a 1996 shipment of lewd magazines that were publicly banned after seizure.
