ACTING PASAY MAYOR SUED OVER CHECKS
Pasay City, Sept 24, 1997 - Acting Mayor Wenceslao "Peewee" Trinidad and the city treasurer were sued over a dispute on who has authority to countersign city government checks.
The P20-million damage was filed by city administrator Antonio Co, who claims that Trinidad had usurped Co's authority to countersigning checks issued to settle the city's obligations. City treasurer Concepcion Daplas allegedly connived with Trinidad.
Acting mayor Trinidad shrugged off the accusations, attributing them to envy and resentment over his assumption of the mayoralty while the octogenarian Mayor Pablo Cuneta is recuperating in a hospital intensive care unit. Trinidad maintains that he has acted completely within the legal limits of his office.
