BATAAN ECOLOGY DAMAGED, QUARRIERS STOPPED
Balanga, Bataan, Sept 23, 1997 - Quarry operations in Bataan have been ordered stopped following discovery of heavy damage on the soils and rivers of the towns of Balanga and Pilar.
Governor Leonardo Roman issued the executive order directing quarry operators after barangay officials complained of massive floods and the destruction of river banks and other productive land in the province.
The governor said operations at quarries can only resume after the operators shall have reformed and rehabilitated the land they have damaged.
The government has scheduled a public hearing on the problem. Summoned to attend were the owners of quarry companies: Acumen Construction, Bataan Quarry and Rockmix, Inc.
