MILF SURRENDERING IN DROVES
Iligan City, Sept. 20, 1997 -- The rank and file of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) are disillusioned and demoralized, driving them to surrender in droves. This was the description of the rebels by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) following the surrender of 14 MILF members to Col. Pedro Atienza, commander of the Philippine Army's 402nd Brigade stationed here.
The rebels handed over their weapons -- 12 M16 rifles, two of which are of the AR18 types. The surrenderees were under rebel Commander Rolly Alawi.
